Kindergarten FAQ

How can I prepare my child for kindergarten (5K)?
1. Read to your child.
2. Take them places and interact with them while there.
3. Talk with your child, have conversations.
4. Build their self-help skills.

How old must my child be?
Five years old on or before September 1.

Kindergarten is a full day program. Can I choose a half-day option?
Yes. Please discuss this option with your home school principal before deciding.

Is there an orientation for children and/or families?
Each school holds a Meet and Greet. Elementary Meet and Greet events usually take place the week before the first day of school and is an opportunity for families to meet their child’s teacher, principal, and other staff members, as well as drop off school supplies.
Please contact your home school for dates and information.

Should my child attend 5K?
Kindergarten is a prerequisite to first grade.

Should my child be screened before kindergarten?
Yes, AASD screening can be done as early as age 3 and does not have to be conducted again
before kindergarten.

What is a home school sna dhow do I find out what my home school is?
A home school is the school closest to where you live—in your neighborhood. If you are unsure, call (920) 852-5308 or consult the School Boundaries on the district website.

My child is in 4K this year, what do I need to do for kindergarten?
Most paperwork is completed, however you must register.  Please contact your home school to determine when their Meet and Greet will be held.
