Attendance Reminders

Attendance Reminders
Posted on 11/17/2021
As we start the second quarter of this school year, we are returning to our regular practice of family notification for unexcused absences.

Unexcused absences are any absence of part or all of one or more days from school during which the school attendance officer, principal, or teacher has not been notified of the legal cause of such absence by the parent or guardian. Unexcused absences lead to truancy, defined as:  a student is considered habitually truant if absent from school without an acceptable excuse for part or all of five or more school days in a semester. (See Wisconsin State Statute 118.15, and AASD Board Policy 430).

If your student has any unexcused absences on three days in a semester, you will receive written communication from your child’s school. The purpose of this letter is to increase communication, ensure student safety and offer support when challenges arise. When we understand why a student is missing school, we may be able to provide solutions to meet their needs. If you receive this letter, please reach out to your child’s school to clear up any unexcused absences.

Given our ongoing COVID environment, communication with school regarding illnesses, appointments and absences from school is essential and will aid in supporting your student when they return from an absence.
