Three AASD Schools Ranked as "America's Top High Schools"
Posted on 09/08/2016

Congratulations to three of our Appleton Area School District high schools that were included in Newsweek’s America's Top High Schools list.

Newsweek looked at six measurements and weighted them to come up with a “college readiness index.” The rankings are meant to show how well high schools do at preparing students for college.

In all, 6,477 of the nation’s 15,819 public high schools met the criteria to be considered in Newsweek’s rankings.

Two out of the three were also included in the “Beating the Odds” rankings. For the “beating the odds” rankings, a school’s college readiness scores were adjusted for how they compared against other schools that had similar percentages of students eligible for free or reduced lunch.

Data used in the methodology included:

  • School demographics and counselors
  • College acceptance and enrollment
  • SAT and ACT participation and performance
  • AP, IB, and AICE participation and performance
  • Dual enrollments

Renaissance was included in the 2015 Beating the Odds rankings and Valley New School was included in the 2015 America's Top High Schools.
