4K and Elementary Vision Screenings

AASD partners with the Appleton Noon Lions Club to provide free and optional, annual vision screenings to 4K and elementary students

KidSight

According to educational experts, 80% of learning is visual. So if a child can’t see well, they can’t learn well.

Yet, most young children don’t get their vision screened until they have problems learning or paying attention in school. By then, it may already be too late. Unless vision problems are detected early and corrected, they risk becoming permanent by age 7.

Lions KidSight USA is a nationwide program to safeguard the vision of children aged 6 months through 6 years.

The AASD partners with the Appleton Noon Lions Club to provide free and optional, annual vision screenings to 4K and elementary students. This service is open to all students.

To effectively address vision issues in children, Spot, a revolutionary automated vision screening technology has been developed to quickly detect the most common treatable sight threatening conditions in children, such as:

  • Refractive errors (nearsightedness, unequal power and astigmatism)
  • Amblyopia (lazy eye)
  • Strabismus (crossed eyes)
  • Anisometropia (comparative analysis for unequal refractive power)
  • Anisocoria (unequal pupil size)

Volunteers with the Appleton Noon Lions Club conduct the screening utilizing Spot. Spot is done from about three feet away and parents are provided with a printed summary of the vision screening.

Eighty percent of all visual impairment can be prevented or cured. The first step to prevention is awareness. The second is early detection through vision screening.

Keep in mind, automated screening does not replace a complete and comprehensive eye examination by an optometrist or ophthalmologist, nor can it detect all eye diseases or conditions. Screening determines if your child requires the immediate attention of a vision care specialist.
