Summer School Employment

Elementary and Middle School Teachers Who Taught This Summer and Would Like to Teach Next Summer

At the end of summer school, you were asked to complete a form indicating if you wished to teach summer school this summer, if you completed this form and indicated that you wish to return, you do not need to do anything. The Summer School Hiring Coordinator will be contacting you via phone or email in early April, after registration is completed and classes are set for the following year.

If the classes you taught are available and you wish to continue teaching in the same area and school, you may do so. If too few students signed up for the classes you taught, you are still assured a position. It will simply be a matter of seeing what is available and again, we will contact you.

You may also elect to voluntarily change subjects if one becomes available that you would prefer to teach.

Please do not call the Summer School Office directly, this slows down the hiring process.

Certification

To teach in the Consortium Summer School you must be a regular education certified teacher in the State of Wisconsin

  • Must be certified in either the grade level or the subject that you wish to teach. You do not need to be certified in both to teach summer school. For example, you do not need to be certified in the area you wish to teach (a math teacher could teach woods, science, etc.), however if you are not certified in the subject area then you must be certified at the grade level in which you wish to teach
  • If you have special education certification in the State of Wisconsin, you can teach in the Consortium Summer School
  • Must be certified in the grade level that you wish to teach (If you are currently an AASD teacher or sub, this is all the information that is needed)

Non-Appleton Staff Members

If you are NOT currently a contracted AASD teacher or AASD sub, please provide three (3) emails of recommendation, one of which must be from a recent Principal/Supervisor.

Include the following information and please send everything together in one email:

  • Full name
  • Name and position of the person providing the recommendation. (If you have current letters of recommendation, within the past year, these can be scanned and emailed instead of answering the questions below.)

The person providing the recommendation should answer these two questions about you:

  • Is the applicant a person you would hire to teach summer school?
  • What qualities does this person bring to a teaching position?

Please confirm with your references that the information has been sent so you are assured that we have received all necessary information. It is your responsibility to follow up with your references to make certain that they have forwarded a recommendation.

Once all the above is received and is in good order, after all teachers who taught during the previous summer have been contacted for re-hire and remaining positions have been posted within the AASD, we will be in contact with you. This process should be completed by approximately the end of April or beginning of May.

Teachers will be called in the order in which we received the completed work. Please remember, it is your responsibility to check with your references and make certain that they have followed through to send the email recommendations.
