Bring Your Own Device (BYOD)
In May of 2013, the AASD school board approved a new policy related to technology. The Appleton Area School District is now supporting a Bring Your Own Device,or BYOD, policy throughout the schools. BYOD invites students to bring in personal electronic devices such as laptops, tablets, and smartphones for educational use. Using the district-wide wireless network, students are able to connect their own devices to access a variety of educationally appropriate electronic resources.
The purpose of BYOD is to allow students to use technologies that they are familiar with while making it easier to access technologies provided by the district. This access will bring the vast resources available on the Internet to the students’ fingertips.
Students may also use apps available on their personal devices to collaborate with their class via social networks such as Edmodo, document and organize what is happening in class, or create new works to demonstrate what they've learned.
