Thank you, Appleton School Board Members
Posted on 10/02/2017
The Appleton Area School District joins school districts throughout the state in saluting local education leaders during Wisconsin School Board Week Oct. 1-7.

This commemorative week recognizes the contributions made by Wisconsin’s school board members, including the Appleton Area School District School Board, who are charged with governing public education under state law.

Wisconsin school board members are chosen by their communities to lead local schools. They oversee multi-million dollar budgets funding education programs for more than 867,000 students in over 420 public school districts in Wisconsin.

Thank you Board

Their personnel decisions affect thousands of teachers, administrators and support staff. They are responsible for formulating school district policy, approving curricula, maintaining school facilities, and adhering to state and federal education laws. Legal concerns and the complexities of school finance, including budgeting and taxation, require many hours in board training programs and personal study to understand these issues and responsibilities.

We deeply appreciate the dedicated men and women who have stepped up to guide education in our community.

We salute the Appleton Area School District Board of Education. Their commitment and civic responsibility make effective local control of public schools in our community possible. They give countless unpaid hours to support our district’s mission to prepare our students for their future, every child, every day.

Please join me in congratulating and thanking the members of the AASD Board of Education: Kay S. Eggert, president; Diane S. Barkmeier, vice president; Barry P. O’Connor, secretary; Timothy R. McKeag, treasurer; James R. Bowman, clerk; Alvin T. Dupree, member & CESA 6 delegate; and Leah C. Olson, member.
